These are pictures taken in 2003, as well as some frames from my 2-hour video documentary, "Kerala, God's Own Land (1993)"and unreleased footage from 1996. In some cases, you may get more information about the frame from the file name. Since this is an ongoing project, I expect to add more images. Click on the thumb nails you would like to see. Then sit back and enjoy!
A WORD ABOUT THE VIDEO FRAMES: Before
you take another step, please bear in mind that the resolution of
the scanned frames I have posted here will not approach that of slides
or photographs taken on still cameras. However, these same frames
look fabulous on the video masters and the VHS copies when played
on VCRs, as originally intended. There are qualitative limits to deriving
still frames from moving images. I also firmly believe I am being
fair and representative of Kerala in selecting the images. Considering
most of these frames are derived from pans, zooms or footage filmed
from high speed vehicles (such as planes, trains, and cars, characterized
by inherent shake), the results are not what I am satisfied with.
But, subscribing to the philosophy, "it's better than nothing", the
overwhelming feedback I have received attests to that thinking. Moreover,
now that I have made it clear that these pictures, for that matter,
any others on various media, will never do justice to Kerala's breathtaking
beauty, I am sure someone who has never seen Kerala will be prudent
enough not to jump to any adverse conclusions or form any ill-conceived
notions purely based on this "best effort"!
